Couples & engagement photography · Johannesburg & Gauteng

Some couples are soft. Some are absolute chaos.

If the two of you naturally lean into each other, brilliant. If you spend most of your time winding each other up, that works too.

I’m not interested in making every couple behave like the same couple just because there’s a camera around.

The first few minutes

The first good frame usually changes the mood.

We’ll greet, chat for a bit and I’ll probably tell you the light looks great. While I’m checking it, I’ll ask you to stand a little closer, make one small adjustment and take a frame that still feels like a test.

Then I show you.

Once you’ve seen that you already look good without doing anything dramatic, the whole thing suddenly feels a lot less serious. That’s normally when we really get going.

One frame can be deliberate. The next can happen because one of you made the other laugh.

Once we’re moving

I’ll set the scene. You two can mess it up.

I might choose the light, put you in a particular spot or give you something to do. That doesn’t mean the next ten frames need to look exactly how I pictured them.

Walk. Dance badly. Pull each other in. Try the dip. Laugh when it nearly goes wrong.

Some photographs are made on purpose. Some arrive in the few seconds after the instruction. I want both.

Where we shoot

Have a place in mind? Tell me. If not, I have a few.

There are a couple of places around Gauteng I know well and enjoy using, so arriving without a location plan is completely fine.

But if there’s somewhere you already love — because it means something, because it looks good or because you just want an excuse to go there together — I’d rather hear that first.

If it works for the photographs, we’ll make a plan.

Not only for engagements

A ring is one reason to do this. It isn’t the entry fee.

Engagement sessions fit here, obviously. So do anniversaries, married couples who realised every decent photograph they have together is from their wedding, and people who simply want photographs of the two of them.

No milestone required.

A quick note

Dogs are easy. Families change the shoot.

Bring the dog. I’m good with that.

If you want children or family included, also fine — we’ll just talk about it first. A couples session and a family session move differently, so I want to know which photographs matter most before we start.

The answer can absolutely be both. We just plan around it.

I book the session for up to two hours.

We normally won’t shoot every minute of that. There’s room to walk between spots, chat and let the session breathe without watching the clock.

Got a place in mind? Send it through.

No idea yet? Also fine. Send me the two of your names, roughly where you’re based and what you have in mind. I can suggest a few places from there.
